Hi All,
I figured I'd start a friendly thread simply to see whom is your favorite wrestler? It can be a singles wrestler, tag team, manager, commentator or any wrestling personality.
For me, without a doubt, it is Bob Backlund.
Best always,
John

My personal favorite will always be David Von Erich. He clicked with me the first time I saw him.

In 1983, and later upon his return to the company a decade or so later, I was able to see Backlund at the Old Boston Garden. Sure, it had no air conditioning, but that really was a special building.

Without getting too "technical" and dissecting into all the qualities and abilities and how many favorites i have in how many different categories, lol... It comes down to 1 of 2 men: Buzz Sawyer and Bruiser Brody my first son's name is Sawyer Brody (true story)... so the slight nudge goes to Buzz simply because of the GCW I grew up on, but Brody is only a C-hair behind

GREAT thread, btw. keifersdad, David Von Erich I unfortunately didn't get the chance to enjoy til he was going since gone, though the more I was able to watch of his stuff in the 90's and since, I do truly also believe he was the most "complete" of the Von Erich's and agree they were grooming him for much bigger things. inquisator and johnrodeo, Backlund was someone I only got to see in small bites early on (during the time i didn't have USA network, so only got to see WWWF sporadically... in fact we actually got USA just in time that the first show i watched, (might have been All-American?) had the Hogan - Sheik World Title change, lol). But I loved his character and was lucky that I knew him well enough to seek his matches out early in my match collecting days. I always appreciated that he was this Opie Griffith grows up looking dude, with this almost gravelly voice, and just had talent in that ring coming out his pores. He had strength, technical ability, quickness and wasn't afraid to "mix it up" when needed... and holy crap could he bleed with the best of them!!

'Exotic' Adrian Street, Roddy Piper, Dynamite Kid, Mark Rocco and Ted Dibiase (Mid South) are some of my faves.
I also love the Condrey/Eaton Midnight Express and the Fabulous Ones!

Hi Jerod,
Very cool about your son’s name. As you know, both Sawyer and Brody were total beasts in the ring. When someone talks about making something looks real, they were as authentic as any.
On the topic of Backlund, I really got behind him behind him because he seemed to be a genuinely good person. Long story, but later in high school I tracked down his home number and worked up the courage to give him a call. He was gracious. Before hanging up I said can I ask you one more question, to which he said yes. I ask, do you mind if I might call you again sometime? He said always feel free to call. Now 30 years later we are still friendly. I once even got to have dinner with him. Reflecting back, I dare say I picked a good role model.
-------
Hi Joe Breakdown,
All great choices. And for all-time favorite tag team, the Midnight Express are near, or at, the top of my list!
Best, John

I will be the heel and say that I hated Bob Backlund. I just didn't like him. He fit the time he was in and played the role and was good and all of that, I just didn't like him. Same with Bruno.

Hi TYStates, I can 100% respect that. That is one of the great things with wrestling, there is something for everyone. Best, John

Magnum TA
I was in my early teens when the Magnum/Tully feud erupted and the 'I Quit' match is still my favorite match to this day. I remember the local TV anchors would hype up the Magnum/Tully matches when they would come to Johnson City, TN in the summer of 1985. Great time to be a wrestling fan.
I also saw a few Wahoo McDaniel matches live and the chops he threw resounded throughout the arena.
